In high school, Filipina Grzywacz was a finalist in the Polish Chemistry Olympiad and participated in the Adamed SmartUP program. She is currently studying Medicine at the University of Cambridge, where she is developing her medical knowledge, clinical skills, and passion for academic medicine. Her long-term goal is to specialize in pediatric oncology and dedicate her career to improving the care of patients with cancer and rare diseases.
As part of her intercalated studies at the University of Cambridge, Filipina pursued History and Philosophy of Science, which enabled her to view medicine from a broader perspective—not only as an evidence-based discipline but also as a practice deeply embedded in social, cultural, and ethical contexts. This experience strengthened her belief that an excellent physician must combine rigorous medical expertise with empathy, responsibility, and a deep understanding of the needs of both patients and their families.
Filipina has also gained research experience at Stanford University, where she investigated novel therapeutic approaches for hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare and complex disease at the intersection of immunology, hematology, and oncology. Her research focused on identifying strategies that could contribute to improving future treatments and enhancing the quality of care for patients affected by this rare condition. She is currently preparing to present her findings at the annual meeting of the Histiocyte Society in Rotterdam and is working toward publishing her research in the American Journal of Hematology.
In the future, Filipina aims to combine clinical practice with scientific research to advance innovative treatments and provide the highest standard of care for children with rare diseases and cancer. She is also committed to supporting the development of Polish science, strengthening international research collaborations, and fostering lasting connections between Polish and international academic institutions.
Alongside her academic and research pursuits, Filipina is actively involved in educational and community initiatives. She is particularly passionate about supporting children and young people from smaller towns by improving their access to education, mentorship, and information about opportunities for further academic and professional development. By sharing her own experiences, she helps students navigate their educational paths and demonstrates that pursuing ambitious scientific goals and an international education is within reach.
