Being the Second Voice Matters Just as Much: Fireside Chat with Maciej Skibiński

Do you have to be in the spotlight to do something that truly matters?

Maciej Skibiński, a Rafał Brzoska Foundation scholar, is a violist and a student at the Hochschule für Musik Basel in Switzerland. He started discovering music as a child. Today he practises for up to several hours a day, performs in Poland and abroad, and regularly works with the Kammerorchester Basel Orchestra Academy.

In his conversation with Rafał Brzoska, he talks about self-discipline, studying abroad, and the role of the viola. It’s an instrument that isn’t always in the spotlight, but it often helps the whole ensemble sound better.

His biggest dream? To one day use the experience he has gained to develop music culture and music education in Poland.

“I’d like to teach one day, and it would be great to do it here. In Poland.”
